Reception Spring Term 2018 Newsletter

Welcome back. We hope that you have had a lovely Christmas holidays and are looking forward to an exciting term ahead.

We will be covering a range of topics based on the children’s interests but will start the term off learning about dinosaurs. We will be reading the book ‘Tom and the Island of Dinosaurs’ by Ian Beck as well as looking at a range of other stories based around dinosaurs. We will also look at a variety of non-fiction texts about dinosaurs and learn how to write an information text on a dinosaur.

In maths, we will continue working with numbers to 20 in counting skills and addition and subtraction, as well as focusing on reading and writing teen numbers accurately. We will also look at measuring length, height and weight, the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes and measuring time in simple ways.

We will be working on balancing and movement skills in PE as well as developing team work in team games. In music, we will be listening to a range of different pieces of music and playing a variety of instruments to make rhythms and to represent different objects and animals. We will continue to create and make a variety of art and DT projects. On that note, please can you send in a small, empty shoe box for a project.

At home please continue to read regularly with your child, ideally every day, and if you would like to do any further activities or games with them then consolidating what we are doing in school by seeing if they remember what they have been taught and if they can apply their knowledge in a range of situations, would be a great benefit to them.

Other news:

  • Show and Tell will be on Mondays. If your child would like to bring in something to show then please do so on Mondays only. Items for show and tell should be based either around our current topic or related to something exciting, different or new they have done. We will also show WOW books at this time too.
  • Please bring PE kits in at the beginning of term to remain in school. Please ensure that every item is named and that children have black tracksuit bottoms for when we do PE outside. A pair of trainers would also be beneficial as well as pumps.
  • Do keep looking at the website for blogs on what we are doing at school as well as for useful links and information
  • Our first stay and play of the term will be on Monday 15th January straight after you drop off your child until 9:30. This will be also be a time for you to look over your child’s Learning Journey where you can add comments and notes of your own. If you cannot make this date but would like to see your child’s Learning Journey then please speak to Mrs Williams and she will find a time for you to look over it.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns then please do come and speak to us.

We look forward to another successful term with lots of fun and hard work.

Many thanks,

Mrs Williams and Miss Beaumont
